Glucomannan is a very beneficial soluble dietary fiber taken out from the roots of Konjac plant. It it is used as an ingredient in various weight loss supplements including Phen24 as it helps in decreasing the cholesterol level in the body as well as aids in weight loss for people suffering from obesity.

People with diabetes have also noticed that it is very helpful in controlling their blood sugar level. It is also very effective in treating constipation and improve bowel movements.

They have found that it can show its effectiveness just by consuming 4 grams of the supplements daily for a period of 8 to 12 weeks while others have been arguing the same. Again it happens to be one of the best choice for treatment of constipation and enhance the functioning of our digestive system.

It is normal to consume 30 grams of Glucomannan daily for this and even pregnant women and minors are unlikely have any harmful side effects when taken for a shorter duration. It is all good for adults to take up to 4 grams of Glucomannan supplements per day up to three months if you want to lower cholesterol level and for a minor maximum of 3 grams per day for two months is enough.

However, it is advisable that you should consult your doctor before taking these supplements because the dosage will depend on several factors of the person like their age, gender, health and also the reason they want to take these supplements and your doctor knows better about you and can prescribe you the appropriate dosage.

 It is very necessary to stick to normal dosage because like any other supplements made of either natural ingredients or artificial ingredients, excessive intake of Glucomannan supplements also has certain side effects and risks associated with it and you may have to face these negative consequences.

The following are some of the potential side effects and risk of Glucomannan supplements:

  1. Diarrhea

    Glucomannan improves the bowel movements. Excessive intake of Glucomannan can increase the bowel movements at an abnormal rate which may cause you diarrhea.
  1. Stomach Upset

    It controls our appetite for a longer duration. If you take it more than required regularly it can negatively affect the natural function of your body’s digestive system. It may cause you problems like heartburn and bitter taste, vomiting, flatulence, hiccups, etc.
  1. Lower Blood Glucose Level

    Glucomannan helps in lowering the blood glucose level from high to normal which is very effective for diabetes patients. But excessive intake of its supplement along with are anti-diabetes supplement may reduce the blood glucose into dangerous level which again is bad for health.

     So the duration and proper dosage by diabetes patients should be confirmed by a doctor before your start the cycle.

  1. Impacts Blood Sugar Control

    Regular consumption of Glucomannan may impact negatively on your body’s natural ability of blood glucose control. It may be very dangerous if you are undergoing any surgery and even during the post- surgery period. Therefore, it is recommended by health authorities its consumption should strictly be avoided at least 14 to 18 days before the date appointed for your surgery.
  1. Other Potential Side Effects

    Though Glucomannan is safe for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers for shorter period of time, consuming it regularly for a longer duration of time may have negative effects on both the mother and their child.

So these were some of the potential side effects and risks associated with Glucomannan. Studies also say that it should be avoided consuming along with other medicines on the same because the benefits of the other medicines may potentially decrease. Therefore, there should a time gap of at least 60 to 90 minutes in between.
