Guarana extract is used as an ingredient in many nutritional and fat-loss supplements . It is a popular weight loss and energy boosting supplement popular among professionals.

Guarana is a plant which is commonly known by the name of Paullinia cupana. This plant is native from Guarani tribe of northern-Brazil.

Since we saw above that it is made up of the seeds of naturally occurring Guarana plants, unlike other supplements which are artificially made up. This is the reason why most of the people prefer it.

Today, almost all the beverage industries use guarana in making of energy and soft drinks since it contains several stimulants like caffeine, theobromine and theophylline. And we know that caffeine helps us with stimulating our CNS (Central Nervous System).

Since we know that it is a natural supplement that is extracted from a plant seed called guarana. Although, various amounts are being recommended in which it should be taken but the fact is that the appropriate amount varies from age to age, health and medical conditions. 

The dosage is generally mentioned on the product labels but before going to take the product, it would be always better to consult your Physician. This will, on the one hand, reduce the chances of experiencing side-effects and on the other hand ensures good health.

It is recommended to take about 50-70 mg on a daily basis. One can also increase the dosage after a week of use up to 100 mg which would be divided into two, i.e., 50 mg after waking up and other 50 mg a little after the noon. 

Taking it within the suggested dosage helps us to achieve the results sooner without any threat of the side-effects.

Note: We looked at the dosage above and one thing which we should keep in our mind is that guarana is not recommended to be consumed at night. It can be harmful to our body as well as our health.

Side-Effects

In the previous section, we saw some of the benefits of guarana extract. Do you know that it is consumed orally, and anything which is taken orally for a longer duration can be proven harmful for our body? 

The same is true for this supplement too. You people must be thinking that this supplement is made up of natural plant then how can it be dangerous for us. 

So, let me tell you that it is not like any product that is made up of natural things are not always 100% safe. There are chances of causing some side-effects.

In this section, we will look at the side-effects caused by improper usage of this product. It is observed that the caffeine in its composition leads to insomnia, nausea, vomiting, tremors, stomach irritation, etc because consumption of caffeine more than 400mg per day is not good for health. 

Other side-effects include headache, pain and increased heart rate. This supplement is not safe for pregnant women. It can also worsen the condition of diabetes patients if taken higher amounts. 

It can lead to Osteoporosis if taken for longer periods because it causes the deficiency of calcium in the bones. Thus, it becomes important to take it in smaller dosage to avoid these problems.
